How to split an invoice across multiple budget categories

ConstructionPro.io · 29 July 20261 min read

Many supplier bills cover more than one trade. Split the total so each line stays honest.

A merchant mix of electrical and plumbing on one PDF should not sit on a single “misc” line. Split the invoice so remaining and alerts fire on the right work.

Before you start

Have the PDF or photo ready, and know which budget categories should share the cost. Categories come from your project template.

Step by step

  1. Open the invoice — Go to Costs → Invoices, open the bill, and choose Edit or Split categories.
  2. Add category lines — Assign amounts to one or more categories so spend lands on the right lines — for example half on Electrical, half on Plumbing.
  3. Save and review the budget — Splits must total the invoice amount. Remaining on each category updates immediately.

Good to know

  • Query status is available if a line does not match the quote.
  • Family viewers and client roles cannot change invoice amounts.
  • Comments and @-mentions stay on the invoice, not in a chat thread.
